Our friends Rasheed and Saeda live out in the country in a family compound that includes the homes of several of Rasheed's brothers — and lots and lots and LOTS of coconut trees and areca nut trees. (The latter look similar to the former, but are very skinny, very tall, and perfectly straight...)
This is one of Rasheed's brothers, on the front porch, reading the Jan. 1 edition of a local newspaper. Note the sarong-like white dhoti he's wearing. It's common attire for men in Kerala.
